Words Within, Words Without

is a reflection on personal and American cultural narratives, created in collaboration with Sarah Mae Gibbons. What do you own about your identities or your histories? What roles or assumptions are culturally assigned or put on you? When and where does part of you start to peel away or over time become wholly changed by those stories?

another day
another way
to lose more time
lose more time

at the beating of another drum
at the dawning of a second sun

words within me
words without
follow closely
hear me out

fear of falling
fear of fear
stirs within me
stops me here

another day
another way
to lose more time
lose more time

greener pastures
wider seas
leave me standing
amongst these trees

words within me
words without
follow closely
hear me out

would the woods be
full of trees
would the trees be
full of leaves

another day
another way
to lose more time
lose more time

words within me
words without
help me to find the winds
to end this drought
